How does a Hooked Process use the Override Database ID?

Original Database Id and Override Database Id
What is the Override Database Id? Does this imply that I can 'redirect' an Input in Database 111 to use the data in Datbase 222?
I understand the LHS (Original Database Id) is where the Hook is active.
